Overview
This policy explains how information is handled in connection with the PeaksKorea website, including how advertising on the site works.
As the site stands now, there are:
- No user accounts or sign-in
- No newsletter or mailing list
- No contact form — email only
- No analytics product in use
The site does show advertising, through Google AdSense. How that works is set out under “Advertising and Google AdSense” below.
This is a description of how the site is built, not a statement of legal compliance in any particular country, and it is not legal advice.
Information collected automatically
PeaksKorea’s own code does not:
- Set analytics identifiers
- Set first-party tracking cookies
- Use local storage or session storage in your browser
- Create an account or profile for you
The Google advertising code that every page loads works differently: it can use cookies and similar technologies, as described in the next two sections.
Like any website, PeaksKorea is delivered by web infrastructure — hosting and content delivery. Those providers process ordinary technical request information in the course of serving pages and keeping the service available and secure. That processing happens at the infrastructure layer rather than through anything this site adds to your browser.
Information you send by email
There is no form on this site, but there is an email address. If you write to bykkd52@gmail.com, then your email address, the contents of your message, and anything you choose to include or attach are received at that address.
That correspondence is used to answer your message and to act on it — for example to fix a factual error, update a source, repair a link, or resolve a question about a photograph. You are not added to any marketing or mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
Correspondence may be retained only as reasonably necessary to handle the inquiry and for legitimate administrative records.
Cookies and similar technologies
PeaksKorea’s own code does not set advertising or analytics cookies.
The advertising on the site works differently: third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies in your browser, and may use web beacons, IP addresses or similar identifiers to collect information as a result of ads being served on the site. The section below describes how.
Advertising and Google AdSense
PeaksKorea uses Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google, to show ads. The AdSense code is loaded on every page of the site.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, users may opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
- Other ad technology providers that work with Google may also serve ads on the site and use cookies to do so. Google describes these partners on its page about ad technology partners, and the aboutads.info link above covers opting out of some of these vendors’ personalized advertising.
How Google uses data
Google describes how it handles data from sites that use its advertising products on its own page: How Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps.
Consent and regional advertising choices
Google requires publishers to use a consent management platform certified by Google when personalized ads are served to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Personalized ads are not served to visitors in those regions unless they have given consent through such a platform.
If you have given that consent and want to withdraw it, clear this site’s cookies in your browser; the consent question is asked again on your next visit. You can also turn off personalized advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings.
Third-party services
Content delivery for images. Guide photographs, where a guide has one, are delivered from the content platform that stores them (Sanity). When your browser loads such an image, it makes an ordinary request to that provider, and the usual network information involved in delivering a file is processed to serve it. It is used to deliver the image, not to track you across sites.
Hosting. The site runs on third-party web hosting infrastructure, which processes the technical request information needed to serve pages and to keep the service available and secure.
Advertising. Every page loads Google AdSense code from Google’s servers so that ads can be shown. What that code does with cookies and similar technologies is described in the advertising sections above.
Typefaces used on this site are served from PeaksKorea’s own domain as part of the site’s files. Loading a page does not send a font request to a third-party font service.
External links
Mountain guides link out to the sources they draw on, including park, transport and local authority pages. Those sites are run by other organisations, and their privacy practices are their own — PeaksKorea does not control them.
Children
PeaksKorea is a general-audience hiking information site and is not directed to children under 13. The site has no accounts and no forms.
